Registrations for Texas Quiz Bowl Camp will remain OPEN through July 1st. You may still register for quiz bowl camp. In order to register please fill out both the basic registration form and the form at the second link corresponding to your chosen session.
As of May 3rd, more than 130 students have registered for the 2017 Texas Quiz Bowl Camp. States represented by these students include Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Registration remains open. The regular deadline for registration is June 1st, though some course sections may fill before that time. Register as soon as possible to reserve your spot.
Courses selection for the 2017 Texas Quiz Bowl Camp will began at noon on April 25th. If you have pre-registered to attend, you should have received an email today with a link to the form for the 2nd step of enrollment.
TQBA is proud to announce that we have added the 2017 ACRONYM Trash questions to this year’s camp’s offerings. Trash questions center on topics from popular culture such as cartoons, celebrities, film, games, sports, tv, and video games. All campers will have the opportunity to play on these questions during both Sessions (A & B) of the 2017 camp at the University of Texas at Dallas in July. All quiz bowl parents and coaches are eligible to join us for either Session A or Session B of Texas Quiz Bowl Camp. Adults are welcome to stay with us in the dorms at UTD or they may choose to stay in a hotel overnight. Participating adults can enjoy sessions on program building, learning theory, statistics, and more. Sessions are run by Jason Flowers and Adam Escandell of the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA), Dr. Grant Mindle of the Greenhill School, and Dr. Chris Romero of Texas Quiz Bowl.
Cost for adult participation is $525 (with overnight stay) or $400 (without overnight stay). Materials, a t-shirt, and two meals daily are included with the fees.
Registration for the 2017 Texas Quiz Bowl Summer Camps at the University of Texas at Dallas has begun. Please visit this online form to register your student.
Students may register to attend one of two sessions Session A: July 9-15 or Session B: July 15-22. We suggest Session A for students currently in grades 4-8 and Session B for students currently in grades 9-11. Any student can attend either or both sessions.
New to the camp this year will be evening Jeopardy! and Name that Tune! contests. Both contests have a limited number of spots available. Student contestants will be chosen based upon the order of their full registration for camp. Student may not fully register until after they have completed the online registration form and submitted a $250 deposit.
Like past years, this year’s camp will feature a number of fun activities for students. In addition to learning about history, science, geography, and humanities, students will participate in sessions on learning strategies, lateral thinking, and study skills each day. Student registration fees include: lodging for six nights at UTD, 2 classes, 2 meals daily, all study materials, a t-shirt, and activities from 9 a.m. through 9 p.m.
For 2017 we anticipate that lectures will be offered on: American History, Classical Music, Physics, and Quiz Bowl Statistics. Additionally, our classes will include: Chemistry, Classic Novels, Drama, History, Mathematics, Classical Music, Mythology, and Shakespeare.
Students who submit their registration before January 1st are also eligible to receive a FREE TQBA Bonito Study Guide. Three Bonito Study Guides (Science, Social Studies, and Literature) were previous available. This spring a new Art guide will be available.

Texas Quiz Bowl Camp 2017 will once again be held at the University of Texas-Dallas. Our 2017 camps will run the 2nd and 3rd weeks of July. Registration will open for these camps on December 1st. The members of the 2014 HSNCT Champion LASA A team along with their coach, Jason Flowers. All four were students at Texas Quiz Bowl Camp in years past.
On Sunday, Texas teams swept the top three spots at the 2014 NAQT High School National Championship Tournament (NAQT HSNCT). Austin’s Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) A team finished first. St. John School (Houston) finished second and LASA B finished third. It was the first time in the event’s 16 year history that teams from the same state took all three top positions.
NAQT HSNCT is the most prestigious national high school quiz bowl tournament; a total of 272 teams from 37 states attended the two day competition in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. On Saturday each team played 10 preliminary matches against teams with similar records. On Sunday, all teams that earned a record of 6-4 or better advanced to an elimination playoff. This year 104 teams advanced to Sunday competition and the three Texas squads were the last ones standing.
Of the 12 players on the top three teams, 10 have participated in the Texas Quiz Bowl Camp in past years. All four members from LASA A (Alex Freed, Ben Jones, Arnav Sasty, and Nathan Weiser), all four members from St. John’s (George Davies, Carlo DeGuzman, Claire Jones and Deven Lahoti) and two members from LASA B (Ethan Russo and Corin Wagen) have participated in previous years’ camps. There are still a few spots available at the 2014 camp if your students is interested.
Camp is a seven day-six night event held at the Tradition at Northgate luxury dorm in College Station, Texas. Students participate in a variety of events each day including courses taught by professors, teachers, and accomplished quiz bowlers, lectures on study skills and the theory of quiz bowl, group scavenger hunts, nightly tournaments, and more traditional summer camp recreations like swimming, biking, frisbee, and ping pong.
